LITERACY VISION/PLAN

SCHOOL YEAR 2023-24

Our Definition of Literacy

P4Q believes LITERACY encompasses communicating, interacting, and understanding through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Literacy unlocks learning in all areas and supports student achievement by fostering independence.

Literacy Vision

The P4Q Community strives to provide all students with access to a meaningful and purposeful content-rich curriculum with Specially-Designed Instruction (SDI) to become independent thinkers and more proficient readers.

Core Beliefs

P4Q’s core beliefs include access to foundational literacy instructional practices that are aligned to the Science of Reading through explicit instruction, culturally responsive texts, using interactive digital platforms, and real-world experiences that ensure students have daily reading and writing opportunities that integrate the social/emotional needs of all learners.

Guiding Principles

  • - Communicate a shared understanding of what the Science of Reading is for all P4Q stakeholders and communicate these expectations with families and the wider school community
  • - Program all students with a designated Reading-Writing block along with targeted interventions embedded into student schedules
